Its not fair for gayle
Dramatic irony struck a second time yesterday night (July 20) as Gayle Nerva, 17, was voted off the competition after she chose the attitude-laden song Leave (Get Out) to perform for the No. 1 hits theme night.

The song title spoke volumes about her fate in Singapore Idol 2 , as did first-to-be-axed Norman Then's High and Dry from the previous week.

“I wanted so badly to go a bit further. I really wanted to sing so many genres and to improve each week. I feel really disappointed that I didn't get enough votes. But there's only so much you can do. You can't please everybody,” says a bubbly but disappointed Gayle in our interview this morning.

She's got one consolation, though: her fans are definitely turning up in droves to cheer up their fallen Idol. Throughout our interview, we witness a swamped Gayle receive SMS after SMS on her cellphone from adoring fans, faced with the impossibility of answering to all of them.

Both Gayle and Norman — the first two to go home ever since the Spectaculars started — were resurrected from an earlier exit from the reality talent quest as the judges' choices for the Wildcard show.

However, it looks like audiences didn't quite take to them as they hoped.

Dick Lee commented that the song didn't suit her voice, while Ken Lim said she failed to adequately control the song.

“I don't know, man,” says a sighing Gayle as she recalls the judges' comments, “It sounds very simple but it's a difficult song. And it's monotonous and the same note all the time, you know!”

Gayle's exit is especially devastating as she has been searching for a comfortable ground to connect with the audience throughout the show's season — and finally found it right at the very moment that Gurmit called out her name as the ousted one.

“It was getting better. When Gurmit said, ‘Gayle, you're going home,' I found it then — in terms of relating to the audience better, getting comfortable with them, and them with you, and instead of seeing them as being the fans while I'm the performer.”

A somber Gayle says she expected to be ousted when she found herself placed in the bottom three, beside Jay and Paul.

“Jay's voice is brilliant and Paul has this really sweet way of singing, even though he does an emo kind of rock. His fanbase is really strong too. I just went, ‘ Okaaaaaay , I'm gonna be going home.'”

However, she didn't get to say all her goodbyes as the finalists were whisked away rapidly to a different place following her farewell song. “I didn't even get to hug all of them… they left so fast! When I went to the mosh pit to hug my friends and turned back to look, it was like, ‘Hey, where have they gone?!'

Undaunted, she left them a stuffed toy (which she calls ‘Mr Snuffy'), some balloons, and left Emilee and Nurul — her closest pals in the competition — a note each at the Idols' lodge (which was unveiled as Hang Out Hotel at Mount Emily in the debut episode of Rated E last night) before heading for home with all her barang.

As the bottom-placed ‘unlucky trinity' Gayle, Jay and Paul hugged, the other Idol contestants behind them broke into tears again, not unlike last week's flash flood.

Even her fans wept buckets. “There was this one fan, Wei Ming. He was crying nonstop and he apologised for not voting enough. I was so sorry for him! I can't imagine him thinking it's his fault.”

Still, at least one person is glad that she's out of the competition: her own mum.

“My mum's happy ‘cos I haven't been going home in a while. She's like, ‘Yay! MediaCorp returned my daughter to me!' Even today, when I came back for interviews, she was like, ‘Huh, not finished yet? Still have to return to MediaCorp?'”

In the meantime, the feisty Gayle, who just completed her ‘O' Levels at CHIJ Toa Payoh Secondary Girls' School and put further education on hold for the competition, says she may just have to look at going back to school now and will most likely pursue a design course at LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts next.

“It's good for me to explore, say interior design or photography — you never know till you try something new… there are so many options for me now. It's a big world. I'm still so young and can do so many things.

“But I want to perform and have concerts. You know all those artistes that sing on National Day? That's so cool lah ! Or those charity shows, where they do those fun stuff.”

Design course or not, Gayle vows to pursue music till her dying breath.

“I won't ever get out of music. It's my life. Everyday I sing and even fall asleep listening to music. I can't imagine if I'm deaf or something… I think I'd die!”

Now that the competition is over for her, Gayle sensibly urges audiences to vote for singers, not lookers. “Look beyond that and see if they're qualified. These people work very hard for everything.”

With Gayle's departure, the Top 12 competition now shrinks to 10 contenders, namely Hady Mirza, Joakim Gomez, Jonathan Leong, Paul Twohill, Jay Lim, Nurul Maideen, Rahimah Rahim, Mathilda D' Silva, Emilee Kang and Jasmine Tye.

A wonderful match



It was not to be at taka or at Madinatul or even at indochine and not even at home. It was to be at Grape Vine Bar cafe and Pub along with some few amazing friends. Quiet and cosy...just a small group. My kind of liking...not too noisy and crowded. Great food and drinks ...it was a night to be remembered. Felt bad turning down the other invitations but its the FINALS! It was very intense and not even the FRENCH fries could cool down ausie and its unwilling support for the french team nor did my italia shirt.

Yesterday was fun
Watch 'Thank you for smoking with HUDA Da Da' yeap that show is freaking funny and dirty. ill give it two thumbs up. Dinner at Riverside Indonesia Seafood Restaurant. Then met up with Nora and Rudy at La Senza...apparently she buying some lingerie set, i feel uncomfy in that shop -.-. Saw berlinda my primary school fre...woo she's now a marketing exec for t3 thingy. I like that mag. Still hot as ever...ex JAL stewardess Then send DA DA to Suntec after catching up with life stories. Met up with Khai, yanti ,asri and baby at Far East. Nigaman came with me then all of us proceed to CK Tangs to meet up with nonet, pirlo and ila. Off we go to Esplanade and chill out and laughts our balls off. Apparently my neck got some issues with them and become the main topic of laughter. Crosaint become crosset. Whistle song become famous. Saw ela on the sidewalks. Feeling the breeze of the dirty water of esplande...with the other groupies. Then after went to cineleisure to catch some street prowl between some chinese youths. One guy knockout on the road...one gals shouting like from the movie kungfu Hustle
'Tiger Roar'- GET LOST~....NOOOO~...hahaha. Meet up with nonet other groupie friends then proceed to PS to catch the third and fourth placing. The match was boring so we slack at the Mac. Eating cocking while hearing the cheers of the soccer gamblers really farny.

NS life can be fun if you are outgoing.
Woohoo its been a week i guess. Solved my sleeping disorder thru unimaginable ways. Yeah...eyes popping experience. Army life seem to be getting fun and getting to know more fun people at camp. Today we had a friendly between preventive medicine branch and the rest of Medical Core. Interesting match kinda remind me of the Italy vs Germany. Alot of attacking and missed goals. i missed one freaking heading shot coz i dun not want to stretch my neck when trying to heading. Argh or else the score would be 2-2 but unfortunately Prev Med wins.

The score 2-1!!! shitz...its ok tat we lost but the main thing is that we had fun and i scored the equalising goal 1-1 for HQMC!!!. Its been a long time since i played soccer... after scoring it kinda reminds me of my golden soccer years during primary school. Yup those were the years where everyday is soccer- morning, recess and after school. Fanatic sia back in primary school and i was even the second highest goal scorer with a total goal of 104. Thanks to Rizal for recording all the scores back then. I think Jamal was third and shariff was the top goal scorer.

Talking about soccer...France wins portugal by a goal. Was rooting for a Portugal and Italy Final. Was at devilz to catch all the action.

Noticed anything diff in the pics?...look at my eyes i hardly can open it. Yup untill i finally decided to take my sleeping disorder to the extreme. The next day i decide not to close my eyes or even take a nap when in camp. Its very tiring and hard as im used to taking naps in the day. When nights falls and the clock strike 10 i pop 2 'Running nose pills' that causes drowsiness and sleep like there is no tommorow.Ahaha it kinda work but the process is slow and eye nerve straining. I had to take it to the extreme and do it coz i was caught sleeping in camp and was punished extra 2 night duties. And so now im kinda in the process or recovering ...cant take naps and rest my eyes untill its 10pm or 11pm coz its the weekend now. Its not even 1 week yet after my posting and i already got 2 extra~ What a week.

getting tired...
Waking up at 6.45 am everyday except the weekends is so freaking tiring. Guess my body and mind is not used to waking up early...going to camp stone...riding stone...talking to building mates stone...stoning when taking course. Best of all its just my second day and i guess they must be wondering whats with this dude who keep stoning.Biological clock in a total mess. Dont want to fugged up at work coz they are a bunch of nice people.

My heart wants me to watch the italy match but my mind wants me to sleep so i can go to work. kumar took leave on monday just to catch the world cup final...thinking if i should or maybe i should just go AWOL. I miss the nightlife...or should i say the nightlife misses me. Haha... I GOT A SLEEPING DISORDER. Tried sleeping early only to keep staring at the ceiling of my darken room with open eyes. Am trying hard to recorrect my biological clock. Too much sleepless nights i guess.

Today i was exposed to the bikers of HQMC when i finally meet rudy my under-study. We went for a smoke...and he brought me to the 'HQMC biker smoking den' i was introduced to many of em...theres this guy who ride rxz, sparkz, super4, vespa and some other guys. The best part is i dun even remember the names of anyone of em coz i got short term memory plus my usual stoning and lack of sleep. We smoke, we chat and we laught and yet i dun even remember their name!..not even one.
